Status Report 2006

This is the first time in my Z-ownership that I have not been driving the Z at all during the whole summer season.
The reason for this was moving house (and garage), which took all my free time.
I decided to postpone the engine rebuild until fall. In the mean time I was gathering all the necessary bits and pieces for the engine.

I've always dreamt of a garage lift and I found something suitable.

lift1

I could not invest in a 2 pillar lift because of the limited roof hight in the garage. I went for a scissor lift which lifts the car 1m. This lets me sit on the floor while working on the car.

lift2

The space between the ramps is free, which enables access to the exhaust system and the drive shaft.
I'm also planning on taking the engine out from below (i.e. letting the engine stand on the ground and lift the car). I'll take some pictures of the procedure and post them here.

In the meanwhile, I'm rebuilding my spare engine. I've cleaned up the main water gallery in the block before I handed it over to the machine shop.
The machine shop bored and decked the block, balanced the crank, installed bronze valve guides and bigger valves (Ferrera).

Stay tuned for the "Status 2007", which will reveal the details about my engine upgrades.
