Status Report 2005

Now at last my high end power problems are definitely solved!
The JWT 400+ cams really made a difference. The engine pulls strong up to redline and still is idling smooth with those cams.
It is really a relief after all those years.

I replaced the valve springs and cams without lifting the heads off and this is how I did it.
First problem was to keep the valves up while pressing on the spring retainer. I attached my compressor to the spark plug hole to build up a pressure inside the cylinder to keep the valve up.

Compressor

The next problem was to come up with a tool that would press down the spring retainer while still allowing access to remove the locking bits.
I used a screw vice (vise) to do the trick. I had to modify it a bit though...
I also a lambda sensor removal socket to press the retainer with. It has a notch in it, allowing to access the lock bits.

Vice Front

The next picture shows how the vice is attached to the cam bracket holes.

This upgrade made this season a great one but after solving one problem I run into another...
The engine was blowing out oil through the crank case ventilation when driving hard on the track.
This is caused by excessive blow by and means one thing...rebuild!
And you know what that means... ;-) UPGRADE BIG TIME!

Stay tuned!
